Because of the 4Th of July landing on a Saturday, we were given the thursday and friday before the 4th off of school. I decided that since I would be very busy with school the following three weeks, I better enjoy my long weekend off.
So the next morning, I woke up at 5:30, got the fishing gear ready, and went
fishing at Birch Creek with my dad and his roommate from college, Bob Moon.
fishing at Birch Creek with my dad and his roommate from college, Bob Moon. Birch Creek is an interesting stream. It is about an hour north-west of Rexburg going towards Salmon, ID. The fact that is is in the middle of a narrow valley, with only sage brush around it, one would think there isn't much fish in there. That's what I want you to think so that you won't go there! Both my dad and Bob were fishing on their new fly rods that they had built earlier in the year. Bob had a goal of catching a fish on a rod that he built and a fly that he tied. Lucky for him we went to a place where you are almost guaranteed to catch something.

The creek is fully of tiny brook and rainbow trout. In estimation, not bragging, I would say that I caught somewhere between 40-50 fish, the biggest being about 8-9 inches long, and the smallest being about 3 inches. As long as you have a fly, whether it looks good or not, positioned right in the water, the fish will hit it. It is an excellent place to take beginner fly fisherman because they get excited from catching something.
One of the best parts of fishing here is the surrounding views. The mountains are right next to you, and are beautiful. The area is full of history and very interesting sites, including some pictographs written on some rocks from some Native Americans.
We spent a couple of hours fishing and were home by around noon so that I could mow the lawn before my next adventure for the day.

your 2nd picture is beautiful. at first i thought you took it ;0
