First Water Adventure of the summer

Its been a long time coming! We had a super long winter and spring. It got nice for about a week at the end of April, and then rained for about a month straight. All the rivers around Rexburg are actually declared as "flooding" right now, and Bannock County declared a "state of emergency" after a huge storm hit friday evening and parts of Pocatello were under water.
All of us high school friends hadn't gotten together for a group activity for a matter of months. We decided to go canoeing. So on saturday evening we met up, went to Plano bridge where we put in at, and then floated about an hour and a half down stream to what is referred to as Fisherman's Pasture. Everyone else was married or seriously dating someone, so they all had two in their canoe. I however went solo and floated by myself. It was really pretty and you could tell the water was really high. But it was a really deep and slow moving stretch of river. In fact, to float down to our take-out took about 90 minutes. From the take out back to my car, I rode a tiny "pit bike", a small dirt bike that only goes about 40 MPH, and it took me less than
5 minutes to make it back. There is a reason that
they call it the Snake River. And that is why it took
so long to float is because of all the turns and
winding that the river takes.
The float was really fun. It was warm enough out still that about half of us jumped in the river. I ended up jumping in a couple of times. It was definitely cold, but it could have been a lot colder!
After we got the canoes loaded on the trailer, we went back into town to escape the mosquitoes (they are pretty bad this year will all the moisture that we have had) and went to Barry Gibson's parents house. There we built a fire, cooked some hot dogs, and sat around and enjoyed each others company for a couple of hours.
It was a fun evening, and was only the beginning
of the fun we will do this summer.
