Kalee and I have some very close friends that we seem to not be able to hang out with as much as we would like. Mike and Megan Christensen are the only other couple still living in Rexburg from the original group of friends from high school. I guess life goes on.
Tyler and Mary Moss had been living with her parents in Maryland during the summer, while they waiting for Tyler to start graduate school at BSU this fall. We knew that they would only be in Rexburg a short time after getting back from Maryland and prior to moving to Boise. So we planned a weekend in Island Park with them and the Christensen's. We were able to go up to Eagle Ridge Ranch, where Kalee's family lived, and stay in one of the guest cabins. Steve and Susan Hyde treat us very good every time we go up, and we cannot thank them enough.

Immediately after getting there, (it was around 9 pm) we knew that it would be a fun weekend. How might you ask? The picture below of Mary and her baby explains it all.
We cooked dinner that night and hung out. The next morning we ate breakfast and took a trip up to "the golf ball", or Sawtell Peak, as it is called. It is definitely a very high peak.
Kalee and I did all the planning and purchasing of food. I told Kalee "food will make this trip. We are not going cheap." We had plenty of food, and it was a very good wekend!
The girls enjoyed sitting and talking, while us boys had out fun outside.
The ranch now has about 80 horses that it uses for trail rides. When Kalee heard that amount, her jaw dropped. That is a huge amount to what they had. It was cool to see them all run back to the pasture.
We easily played frisbee for over an hour while the girls talked.
That evening we went down to the ponds and did some fishing. Mike taught Tyler how to cast a fly line. Both Mike and I were impressed with his beginning skills. After fishing on this pond for an hour or so, Steve Hyde came down and told us there weren't any fish in this pond. It gets too warm that the fish die, and the birds fish this pond heavily.
So he took us over to the "big" lake as Kalee calls it, and told us they stocked over 2,000 catchables. Kalee and I went out on the paddle boat and I caught a 16-inch rainbow just before dark.
Tyler and Mary headed home that night. The next morning we went and visited the Island Park ward for Sacrament Meeting. Kalee really wanted to see her brothers plaque hanging up. Elder Dalton is currently serving the the Perth, Australia Mission. The ward sure enjoyed seeing Kalee and hearing an update on her family.
On the way home, the Christensen's and us stopped at Upper Mesa Falls and had a picnic where enjoyed some delicious hot dogs. We then fed the fish at Warm River. This never gets old to me. And as I get older, the fish get bigger. Weird. But true.
It was a great weekend. Kalee and I feel very blessed to have such great friends that we can enjoy spending so much time with.
