As I am getting ready to graduate in just a few weeks from BYUI, I am turning a page in my book of life. I haven't really felt any kind of "pressure" about what I am going to be doing in January. Rather, I feel an excitement about my ability of taking a career path that will allow me explore new areas of my life. People ask me often if I am excited to leave Rexburg. A few months ago I would have replied that I wasn't really sure. But now I am very excited. I know I have a lot to learn and a lot of different areas of my life that need improvement. I feel that a change of scenery will allow me to look at my life in a different perspective, allowing me to see those changes that need to happen. I have been in Rexburg for 4 years, ever since being home from my mission. Although I love it here and have a lot of fond memories, I feel that changing things up for a bit will be really good for me.
Today I received a notice from Disney World in Orlando, FL, that they have accepted my application and they offered me a job. I am not sure if I want to take that though, and I am still waiting to hear back from a different division of Disney World that I applied for a Professional Internship in.
My thoughts are elevated today on the subject as today was the Newel K. Whitney Business Summit on campus. My only class today was cancelled so that we could go and listen to the speakers. I was able to listen to four different people speak including John M. Huntsman. Because of the setting, these meetings were not in a large room, but were held in a rather intimate setting. I was sitting farely close to all the speakers including Elder Huntsman.
This is a great man.
As he spoke, you could tell that Elder Huntsman understands why he is a billionaire. He knows that his success is not because of what he has done or is doing, but because he is a tool in the Lords hands to bring about a great work to the people of the earth. Elder Huntsman stated that he is dedicated to finding a cure to cancer and wiping the disease off the face of the earth. Elder Huntsman said that he has started or is starting multiple businesses in which 100% of the profit is going to his cancer research programs.
I was also able to listen to Paul Taggart and Traci Joost, entrepreneurialists, and Jeff Benedict who wrote the book "The Mormon Way of Doing Business." Through all these talks, I realized that what has made these people successful was the willingness to step into the dark and do something that they didn't know how to do. I felt very strongly that I need to follow their steps, take a leap of faith, and put myself out in the open. I love the quote "step out on a limb, that's where the fruit is!"
Now I need to go forward, taking leaps of faith, and enable myself to grow in new and different ways.
Oh, and this week I have been fishing three times. The fall weather has been INCREDIBLE! My homework load has been relatively lite, allowing me to escape to the river. The fishing hasn't been to good. I caught two on monday, fishing just below the Ashton Dam at Ora bridge. Tuesday and today (thursday) I went to Fun Farm, catching two on tuesday and just one today. The fish have been really picky. The fishing report says that cloudy days are better for fishing. However, I love to be out in the sun and see the brightly colored trees. I was in dream land.
